Welcome to the Nottage Maritime Institute

The Nottage is a local maritime museum located on Wivenhoe Quay, with a fine collection of paintings, photographs and models all with local connections. Our 2023 opening hours are 1.00 until 4.00 p.m. on weekends and Bank Holidays from 13th May to 10th September. The Nottage is becoming known for summer exhibitions of art and also those reflecting aspects of its own collection. Please see our events page for details.

The Nottage is home to The Friends of the Nottage, a group of supporters who may use the Nottage facilities and attend six lectures on a variety of subjects during the winter months for a modest subscription.

The Nottage is available to hire for meetings, parties and functions and our well equipped kitchen offers catering facilities for up to thirty people. There is a stair lift at the rear of the building.
